I might believe the “story”, because since it was the first time anyone from England had been to NSW, so no one would know what was in that foreign country. But, nevertheless, I also might not believe it for 2 reasons: (1). The paper vendor might have just written the story himself so he would get more money and (2). The people in NSW could just lie about anything they claimed to see, because no one had been there before.
