Young Writers Club Extravaganza Day - October 2022

Tasman map. The scales are a gold almost beige colour. Smooth scales ripple on its back shining in the sun. The tail sloshes through the water in a threatening yet gracious way. The tail slithers along the sandy beach floor matching the colour of the warm exfoliating sand. When it closes it’s eyes you would lose sight of it in a second. The sage green eyes gaze at the water with a distant faraway look. A dark forest green liquid is ejected from the back of the monster blinding me and envelops everything in sight with the click of a finger. When the last remanence of the liquid has disappeared the monster is gone.

Wonderful, large, wild man I picked up the daily newspaper and read the description. I became more terrified and shocked as I continued reading. By the end of the page I was breathless and horrified by the contents of the article. While over the seas a group of explorers discovered a Giant! And the brought it back! What if it escaped? What if becomes restless and tries to break free? What if they come and attack the civilians on the streets?! These horrifying thoughts blasted through my head like a whirlwind. I needed to prepare in case there was a takeover! As I rushed back home I started building a bunker with defence in my backyard. The newspaper lied on my countertop. On the very bottom in bold print read. ‘The above context is fictional. Any reference to any alive or dead people and animals are purely coincidental.’

The dragon lurched deep below the ocean, safe from the roaring ocean above. Its razor-sharp spikes snapped up and down above its head. Its body casts an ominous shadow on the floor of the ocean. The dragon’s rough skin scraped against the sharp boulders. It glared.

Wonderful, large, wild man He is not real. I’m sure of it. I study at the newspaper. It says he has eyes as beautiful and glimmering as a tiger’s emerald pupils. How could any man’s eyes be so beautiful? How could any man’s body be so tall? I’ve heard of tall men, but never this large. The photo on the newspaper pictured a giant man, with thick eyebrows and strong hair like rope. It seems so real, although there is no evidence, except for a fake newspaper and a small image.

Sometimes if you search deep,down into the ocean,if your lucky,you find a sea monster hiding in the slimy sea grass.It is camouflaging. Sometimes they are friendly with a big smile waiting to greet you,or maybe it’s grumpy and just wants to sleep.Maybe they charge at you,swimming with their slimy blue fins,or maybe they follow you gracefully,if your lucky.Who know that maybe they’ll invite you to their underground cave for a little nibble of sea cakes. But watch out-some are dangerous,with big teeth and a fierce move,and some are friendly with big gummy smiles. You have been warned!

Fake News The monster is scary. It makes me feel worried about the creature. I don’t know what it is. Is it real or fake. I don’t really believe the story that I read about. What a wild man as huge a a giant. Could this be true? Well that’s probably false. I know a bit of the ships that went to NSW. I am sure that is false. But everyone was sure that this is true. No one has been there. No wonder they didn’t know.

I might believe the “story”, because since it was the first time anyone from England had been to NSW, so no one would know what was in that foreign country. But, nevertheless, I also might not believe it for 2 reasons: (1). The paper vendor might have just written the story himself so he would get more money and (2).
